Downtown
Downtown Amarillo has been a destination for cultural activities since the Globe-News Center for Performing Arts opened its doors in 2005. This state-of-the-art concert hall houses three resident musical performance companies that include ballet, dance, opera and symphony. It is located directly across the street from the Amarillo Civic Center, where touring shows come to town.
Downtown also boasts the largest number of historical markers and architecture the city has to offer, and it’s the main location for special events.
Activities like High Noon on the Square, Jazztober, and the Center City Electric Light Parade are held here. It’s also the prime location for the Hoodoo Mural Festival and other mural art programs.
More than 30 restaurants call this area their home, and all but two are local establishments. It’s a melting pot of ethnicities with cuisines ranging from Italian, Mexican and Tex-Mex to Asian fusion, Vietnamese, and seafood.
Plus, Downtown offers the best in the outdoor dining scene. Some restaurants have patios to enjoy Amarillo’s climate while taking in amazing sunsets.
